POTTSTOWN PA – Seven dogs housed at animal shelters in Elizabethtown NC were the special, and only, passengers Tuesday (July 7, 2009) on an express private flight from North Carolina to Pottstown, The Bladen (County NC) Journal newspaper reported.

The dogs, which are to be offered for adoption at Diane’s Discount Pets and Adoption Center, 1486 S. Hanover St., were transported at no cost by pilot John Greco of Lower Burrell PA, reporter Jenny Hayes-Carroll wrote in The Journal’s Thursday’s (July 9, 2009) edition. Greco is a volunteer of Pilots ‘N Paws, a non-profit “online forum for animal rescue groups and pilots to coordinate animal transports around the country.”

Greco donated his time, use of his plane, and the cost of his fuel to make the almost 1,000-mile round-trip flight. His passengers – two Cocker Spaniels, a Labrador-Bulldog mother, and her four young puppies – were listed by their first names: Ginger, Ashley, Ma-Ma Mia, and the four Pias.

Bladen County NC residents had been housing the pets until the decision was made to fly them to Pottstown, Hayes-Carroll reported. Becky Spearman of the county Extension Services office housed the mother dog and her four puppies; Denise Cross, owner of a pet-grooming service in the county called “The Barking Lot” boarded the Cocker Spaniels at her business.
